DO YOU WANT A PRO BONO LAWYER?

An application to appoint a pro bono lawyer can be made in two ways:

1. Make an appointment by the office of legal assistance. (ONLY ON APPOINTMENT) - 1 appointment per person

  • You can make an appointment via www.balieantwerpen.be (see red bar above - 'make your appointment here') or by telephone between 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on 03 260 72 80.
  • Given the high demand, we work with time slots of 15 minutes. During this appointment, a staff member will help you with the application for a pro bono lawyer. So keep in mind that you will not be able to speak to a pro bono lawyer immediately during this appointment.
  • Bring the next documents to you appointment documents should not be older than 2 months (download the application form here)
    • A completed application form
    • Attestation of family composition --> to be obtained from the municipality
    • Proof of income for the last 2 months. If you don't have an income, you must bring a negative attestation from RVA or OCMW. You should also bring proof of income from a co-occupant over 18. For school-age children, bring a school certificate.

  • State in your e-mail why you need a lawyer and attach the following documents:
    • A completed application form (download above)
    • Attestation of family composition --> to be obtained from the municipality
    • Proof of income for the last 2 months. If you don't have an income, you must bring a negative attestation from RVA or OCMW. You should also bring proof of income from a co-occupant over 18. For school-age children, bring a school certificate.

Please note that the Legal Assistance Office cannot provide interpreters. If youcannot speak Dutch, French, German or English, you should bring your owninterpreter to your appointment.

Are you self-employed? Then it is not possible to get a pro bono lawyer by appointment. Depending on your situation, deliver the documents below via mail to bjb@balieantwerpen.be. Please note that the Legal Aid Office can only appoint a pro bono lawyer to defend personal interests andnever the interests of the company itself.

 

 

  • Do you have a proprietorship?
    • Taxreturn for the last two years
    • Quarterly VAT return for the full year
    • A detail of professional expenses
    • Proof of payment of social contribution + payroll with holding tax
    • Proof of benefits in kind (such as car, mobile phone, electric bike, etc.)
    • If necessary: accountant's declaration.

 

  • Do you have a company?
    • Annual accounts for the last 2 years
    • Possible pay slip (281.10 or 281.20)
    • Proof of payment of social contribution + with holding tax on wages
    • Proof of benefits in kind (such ascar, mobile phone, electric bike, etc.)
    • Possibly:declaration by accountant

 

Minors are automatically entitled to a pro bono lawyer. A special service is available for problems concerning immigration law.
